My
Captain outfit for faire is almost done. The only two things I
really have left to do are: switch out the silver grommets in my jacket
to the new gold ones I bought and add my flintlock pistol that I
am getting from my boyfriend Kris for my birthday!
This
whole pirate thing started last fall when Jenny, Summer and I all went
down to Kansas City for the "Wenches' Invasion" weekend.
We watched and oogled the Jolly Rogers and were kidding about becoming
pirates ourselves! We were considering re-vamping our characters
and re-auditioning for Midlands Faire (in Council Bluffs where the three
of us work faire). But now that we've decided never to work there
again, we can play as pirates all we want!
For
some reason I was a crazy kid, and wanted to be a pirate ever since I
would young--until I found out about the Coast-Guard, Navy,
international trade guidelines and jail and things like that. But,
the dream was always there.
I'm
even now playing a Pirate Captain in the current D&D game that's
being run! (I've got a massive ship, and everything ala Cut-Throat
Island.)
As luck would have it, there is a Buccaneers
and Bandits weekend at Kansas City this year that Jenny, Summer
and I (and maybe my best friend Alicia!) are planning on attending.
We went so far one night on an AIM conversation to start dorking out and
kidding about making up pirate characters...
I'm Capn' S.M. Tymburs (Shiver Me Timbers...) of the Fishy Hooker. (I
think I should be all ARRR! and Scottish--escaped from Australlia or
something like that!)
My friend Jenny is First Mate: Jennie Watch (because every Watch needs a
well trained helmsman!)
My friend Alicia is Master of the Tops (in charge of rigging, etc.):
Eydou Tyeim-Goode (I do tie 'em good! She's from Barbados.)
My friend Summer is Bosun (in charge of supplies and *disciplinary
issues*): Dominique De'Whippe (She's French. We have a multicultural
ship.)
