[ About Me ]

Updated, October 27, 2001

I'm in the process of changing over all of my pages from geocities to tripod, so right now all that is up are some galleries and this "about me" page, so my homepage is really larisa27.tripod.com/home.htm

Name:  Larisa, it's Russian for "happy and cheerful".

Age: I  turned 20, I'm a big girl now.  (I'm a Leo through and through).

Place of Birth: Omaha, Nebraska

Occupation:  I am a college junior at UNO that is thinking about a major in Sociology (and has been a Theatre, History and Business major!) who is three classes away from completing her English minor, that freelances some secretarial and data entry on the side, and excels at being a full-time dork.

Family: (They're very close to me, I still live with them.) My mom and my dad, same ones, no step parents and my brother Andy, who is 23.

Pets:  I used to have a black-lab/ golden-retriever mix named Luther, but he had to go away, so now I just have my 14 year old cat, Tippy Alexander, Duke of Hines.

Accomplices in Crime:  Of course Alicia, my brother Andy, Kris and Chris, and 'the boys': Ora and Eric.

Love Life: It's crazy, always is.  What can I say? I'm a firey Leo--life isn't life without some kind of love.

Now? Kris.  We've known each other for 7 years, and kept in contact off and on.  I have now seen perfection, even after the very critical, cynical and harsh eye that I put to my feelings and our friendship.  It's fantastic to be so loved, and to be so happy. :)  When a person has a conviction--they have a conviction.

Physical Description: I'm five foot nine, have short red hair, green eyes, little and carefully shaped eyebrows, three piercings in each ear, no body piercings and no tattoos yet.

Current Fascinations: Anything 40's or 50's.  Rockabilly, pin-up girls, hot rods, renaissance faires, being the pirate captain of the Fishy Hooker, being crazy with Ali and Kris and Chris, pirating, gaming, sewing my garb for this year, shopping through thrift stores, Hello Kitty, wenching, sushi, cooking, anime, video games, playing pool, yoga, comic books (KOTD, Sandman, Ninja High school, Shidima, Warlands, User), role playing games (D&D, soon to be some LARP Vampire), theatre, being online, chatting, surfing and web paging, Live Journal

Music:  I am going through another big rockabilly, ska and punk kick right now.  So "The Rev", Less Than Jake, Buck-O-Nine, Dance Hall Crashers, The Urge, Social D, Saves the Day, Jimmy Eat World, Alkaline Trio, etc. are all on my playlist.  But out of the 700 songs on my playlist, it goes from oldies, to celtic, lots of Jolly Rogers' songs, I have salsa and hip-hop, techno, swing, industrial...whatever moves me.  I'm my own sub-culture, the Hodgepodgd Larisa sub-culture.

Favorite Condiment:  Of course the answer is Ranch Dressing. :)

Current Mode of Transportation:  Before I had "Essie the Escort" (the '91 little white Escort) and now I have "Hinaka the Honda", a little white 4-door Honda with a Mugen red H on the front. (and a strut bar for optimal racing capacity. Vrrroooom!)

Favorite Movies:  Swingers, Snatch, Princess Bride, Legend, Office Space, The Big Libowski, Cut-Throat Island!, Shakespeare in Love, Labyrinth, Star Wars, Drop Dead Fred, Mall Rats, Clerks (sluuurp, sluuurp, 37!), Monty Python movies, Cabin Boy (there is something about that movie that will make me stop whatever I'm doing and sit down and watch it, no matter where it is in the movie--and no matter what I'm doing. :) )

Favorite Holiday:  I dig my family, so holidays are always great.  But Christmas is cool, because you get to get presents for *everyone*, and it's just a happy time.  And of course, Halloween...because it's THE BEST time to dress up. (not "the only" time to dress up, mind you...but the best.)

Favorite TV Show:  I actually don't sit down and watch a whole program, hardly ever.  Alicia and I have tried to have Survivor III nights, but scheduling hasn't permitted that yet.  But I the channels that I like are: HGTV, TLC, The History Channel, Comedy Central and Sci-Fi.

Favorite Flowers:  daffodils, daisies, sunflowers, peonies, lilacs, magnolias, pink roses, yellow roses and cherry blossoms. (flowers are just so pretty and smell nice, and make me happy.  I'm going to have a huge garden and tons of flowering trees when I have my own house.)

What am I going to be when I grow up?  That is a very good question, that I have been asking myself.  Happy...I hope, probably a very old skoo7 domestic. :)  I'm really digging this Sociology class that I'm in now.  Maybe I'll try that out for a while.

Weird Factoids:  I'm a pretty quirky person all around, but here are some things that are pretty interesting.

I've only been out of the country once, to Tijuana, Mexico. I took piano for 6 years, I played the Bb clarinet for 5 years and the bass clarinet for 3 years (and am tone deaf).
I've been on an airplane for three trips. I used to take Irish Dancing lessons.
I've been to California, New York, Chicago, Washington DC and Nebraska City (to name a few. ;) ) I am addicted to my Live Journal. (admitting it is step 1!)
I don't know how to: roller skate, ice skate, water or snow ski, I've only ridden horsies twice in my life and then I did it very badly, but I do know how to swim and love to! I work at the Renaissance Faire in Council Bluffs and at the faire in Kansas City.
I was nominated for Homecoming Queen my senior year of high school (was very close in the running, but didn't quite make it!) I've driven 11 hours one way to go to a faire :) In Wisconsin.
I've never broken any bones or had any stitches, but I'm had oral surgery twice! I've been dying my hair for 8 years and it's been: blonde, green, red, blue, purple, white and black.
I used to take Bag Piping lessons. Alicia's been my best friend for 12 years.
I used to take tap, jazz and ballet lessons. I have been "online" since I was in 7th grade.

That's enough quirkiness for now!
